What is a Seedless Watermelon?The seedless watermelon is a sweet, juicy, refreshing and delicious treat. More convenient that the seeded variety and seem to have a longer shelf life since there are few seeds which aid in the deterioration of the fruit. Seedless watermelons contain less than 10 black seeds on average per melon, and contain edible white pips making them a safe and healthy treat for all the family, even the smallest of children. Seedless Watermelons are created by cross-breeding two varieties of watermelon together. To accomplish this, growers plant seeded and seedless plants next to one another and, with the help of pollen carrying bees, they germinate seedless plants to produce “seedless” melons. Seedless Watermelon is an excellent source of Vitamin A and Vitamin C and Fibre. They contain no fat, 8% natural sugar and 92% water. They also contain Lycopene which has been linked to reducing incidences of certain cancer types and lowering heart-attack risk. A seedless watermelon should be bright red in colour.
